AB928: How to Meet the Legislative Mandates (Counselor Only Session)
Presenters: Heather Antunez and Dr. Yvonne Portillo

Session Description: AB928 requires that students with a goal of transfer will need to be placed on an ADT where one exists, unless the ADT doesn't match the student's educational goal(s). This workshop, designed specifically for counselors, will focus on the requirements of this legislation, the department process for in-reach to students, aligning course sequencing to multiple legislative requirements, and the documentation of the ADT "opt out" process.
Canvas Studio: A Hands-On Workshop

Session Description: Join us for an interactive session exploring Canvas Studio, a new media tool enhancing student engagement and creativity within our Canvas LMS. This workshop will provide you with practical skills to integrate video content seamlessly into your courses. Note: Canvas Studio doesn't replace CCCD Panopto (our primary video platform). Instead, the media/communication tool is an alternative platform purchased by the California Community Colleges Chancellor's Office (CCCCO) California Virtual Campus-Online Education Initiative (CVC-OEI) for the entire CCC system.

Humanizing LGBTQ+ Experiences

Session Description: The session explores the lived experiences of LGBTQIA+ students in the California Community College system. Participants will discuss first-hand LGBTQIA+ student experiences, and the ways we can actively create a better higher education experience for students with diverse gender and sexuality identities at Golden West College.
The first-hand experiences that this session will discuss are available below before FLEX Day. Those interested in attending are encouraged to review them before attending, however, previews are not required.

PASS Program Pilot

Session Description: This session is designed to prepare our AB 1705 English and math instructors who are part of the Fall 2024 pilot for the program. Program structure, pass leader logistics, and collaborative planning time with your PASS leader will take place during this session. Although this session is designed for the faculty participating in the pilot program, it is open for all faculty who are interested in learning more about the program.
Supporting Student Success: Mental Health at GWC - Part 1
Presenter: Kyle Smith, M.S., LMFT

Session Description: The mental health needs of our students have never been more important. Often, faculty and staff are the first people to whom students display or disclose their symptoms. These encounters can be overwhelming especially when our desire to help is greater than our capacity to help. This workshop aims to help you cultivate the knowledge and concrete skills to stand with our students-in-need when they are most vulnerable. We’ll cover how to spot when mental health is interfering with academics, some in-the-moment interventions, preventative measures like helpful syllabus language, and how to tell when it’s time to call in more help.

Data Coach STEM Inquiry Findings

Starfish: Increasing Student Success, Engagement, and Retention. (Counselor Only Session)

Session Description: In order to increase retention and student engagement, the campus will implement Starfish with a team of Faculty, Counselors, and Student Success coaches to help case manage students. This workshop will guide Counselors through the Starfish platform, understand "flags" and referrals, and help create a standard for workshop topics for success coaches.

Supporting Pregnant and Parenting Students
