Huntington Beach, Calif. — The Golden West College Theater Arts Department proudly announces its upcoming production of The Diviners, written by Jim Leonard Jr. and directed by Tom Amen. Performances will run from October 10–19, with evening shows Thursday through Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday matinees at 2 p.m.
The Diviners is an award-winning American drama exploring the unlikely friendship between a disturbed young man and a disenchanted preacher. Set in rural Indiana during the 1930s, the play tells a moving story of friendship, faith, family and community. As playwright Jim Leonard Jr. writes, “These are good and simple people, they have only the best of intentions.”
“Over the years, The Diviners has become like a dear friend or a well-worn pair of shoes – there is an affinity that I feel for this story that is hard to put my finger on,” says Director and GWC Theater Professor Tom Amen. “Though my creative journey in the theater has taken me into some of the darker corners of humanity, I just can’t seem to stray too far from playwright Jim Leonard Jr.’s plain-spoken and well-intentioned characters – this play, and the good people in it, keep bringing me home.”
All performances will be staged in GWC’s 339-seat Mainstage Theater located at 15751 Gothard Street in Huntington Beach. Tickets are available now online at gwctickets.universitytickets.com, by phone at (714) 895-8150, or at the Mainstage Theater Box Office.
