Golden West College nursing student Vanessa Hailey was notified on June 4 that she has been awarded a $1,000 scholarship from the Community College League of California.
Hailey is one of 10 students from across the state who were chosen to be recipients of the newly created scholarship, which is funded by the proceeds from the 2021 book “A College for All Californians: A History of the California Community Colleges,” co-edited by League President and CEO Dr. Larry Galizio and president and CEO Emeritus of the American Association of Community Colleges (AACC) and superintendent/president emeritus of Palomar College, Dr. George Boggs. “The creation of this scholarship stems from a deep-seated belief in the transformative power of education,” said Galizio in a news release last December.
Hailey first began studying at GWC in 2022, taking pre-health classes at the College to satisfy the prerequisites needed to apply for GWC’s nursing program.”I chose GWC because of the amazing reviews and recommendations I have heard about science professors, and thought it would be in my best interest to get my foundational science classes done here before attending/applying to nursing school,” she says.
Hailey has been accepted into GWC’s nursing program for Fall 2024, and the League’s scholarship will benefit her immensely as she works toward her goal of becoming a nurse.
