Huntington Beach, Calif. — Golden West College has partnered with TimelyMD to offer students free and equitable access to mental health and basic needs support through the TimelyCare platform.
Beginning on April 3, TimelyCare will serve as a 24/7 virtual extension of the College’s Student Health Center, with a goal of improving student well-being, engagement, and retention.
Mental health services through TimelyCare will be available to all enrolled students free of charge, with up to 12 counseling sessions available per year. Using their phone or other device, GWC students can select from a wide-ranging menu of virtual care options from licensed counselors in all 50 states, including:
TimelyCare also provides a library of digital self-care content and a peer support community to help students customize support to meet their unique needs.
The need for 24/7 access to high-quality care has never been more important. According to a recent report by Gallup and the Lumina Foundation, student mental health is the number one reason students leave college.
“Mental wellness challenges for college-aged students have increased significantly in the past few years — especially during the pandemic — and continue as students adjust to their post-pandemic lives,” says GWC Associate Dean and Student Health Center Director Judy Cheng. “The need for mental health services has become overwhelming. We want to provide more consistent, accessible, and reliable crisis and therapy assistance for our students.”
Founded in 2017, TimelyMD is trusted to serve more than 1.5 million students at nearly 250 campuses nationwide. “Meeting the need for equitable, on-demand access to care is a critical challenge that extends beyond campus boundaries. TimelyCare will allow Golden West College to solve problems rather than just treat symptoms,” says Luke Hejl, TimelyMD CEO and co-founder.
