WHAT IS CIVIC ENGAGEMENT?
Civic engagement is the act of participating in and influencing civic life, both locally and nationally. At Golden West College, we are committed to encouraging and supporting our students in becoming civically engaged through our mission, vision, and values. Whether it's joining student government, participating in our volunteer program, or staying informed about upcoming elections, we're here to help you get involved.

How to make change
Citizens fulfill their civic duty by registering to vote and casting their ballots. Voting is the most essential way for individuals to engage in the democratic process!
Students can get help make a change by:
- Volunteering during election periods by making phone calls or handing out pamphlets.
- Contacting your representatives through lobbying efforts.
- Students can become involved with the Student Senate of California Community College (SSCCC) by participating in Associated Student Committees.
- Students can participate in the decision-making process of their local community college through involvement with the student board of trustees.
- Students are required to pay the student representation fee of $2 per semester to help support student campus activities and the student government body.
- Outside of the campus government, students can join an external campaign supporting candidates running for public positions and local measures by canvassing or volunteering to outreach.
