TUTOR Roles

Peer Educators (i.e., Tutors) help students grasp challenging concepts, build foundational skills, and refine study strategies through individual tutoring appointments, drop-in tutoring sessions, and open assistance labs in the Tutoring and Learning Center.

We hire for three different tutor roles which include peer tutors, embedded tutors, and PASS leaders. Please refer to the GWC TLC Peer Education Role Comparison for more details on the different roles. Note that to be hired as an embedded tutor an instructor would need to 1) apply and receive approval to have an embedded tutor in their course and 2) recommend you to be their embedded tutor.

ELIGIBILITY

To be eligible for the Peer Tutor and Embedded Tutor positions, you must:

Demonstrate course content competence
Have a grade of B or higher in the class(es) for which you want to tutor
Have good interpersonal and communication skills
Obtain a recommendation from a GWC instructor

To be eligible for the PASS Leader position, you must:

Demonstrate course content competence
Have a grade of B or higher in the class for which you want to be a PASS Leader
Have an overall GPA of 3.0 or higher
Have good interpersonal and communication skills

HOW TO APPLY

Students interested in becoming tutors should:

1. Review the eligibility requirements:

Good academic standing

2. Obtain a faculty recommendation:

Reach out to your instructor and express your interest
Share your qualifications clearly
Provide your instructor the link to the Faculty Recommendation Form

FALL 2026 TIMELINE

Our recruitment process for Spring is currently open and we will be accepting applications through May 24, 2026. You may submit an application through the Peer Educator Application Form.

Fall 2026 - Tutor Hiring Timeline

Tutor Application Period is open April 27, 2026 through May 24, 2026.

Tutor Group Interviews are tentatively scheduled for June 4, June 5, and June 8, 2026.

Tutor Onboarding is from June 22, 2026 through July 24, 2026.

Required Tutor Online Training Modules are available August 3, 2026.

Required Tutor Orientation and Training is on August 11, 2026 and August 12, 2026 (both days and In-person) .
