Sociology programs are designed to broaden the students understanding of the behavior of people in groups, and of the organization and the functioning of society. Programs in sociology may lead to positions in an area such as social work, personnel work, and recreation. Some sociology majors also take education courses in order to be certified as teachers; others continue their education in graduate school.
