Math is more than numbers … it’s a way to solve real problems and create change. Whether you’re passionate about advancing climate justice, shaping environmental policy, improving healthcare systems, designing equitable technology, or building stronger economies, a strong foundation in mathematics opens doors.

We want every student to have the support they need to succeed in math. That’s why ALL GWC math classes are designated as “Zero Textbook Cost,” meaning books and course materials are free so you can concentrate on your studies.

The Golden West College STEM Center is a welcoming space in the Math and Science Building where students can study, collaborate, and get access to free resources like calculator and textbook loans, microscopes, and anatomy models. It’s also home to the MESA and Raíces programs and regularly hosts guest speakers, workshops and other STEM-focused events to support students on their academic and career paths.

Open Educational Resources

Open Educational Resources (OER) are free, openly licensed teaching and learning materials — like textbooks, videos, and course content — that anyone can use, share, and adapt.

The MESA (Mathematics, Engineering, Science Achievement) program at Golden West College helps first-generation, low-income students reach their goals in STEM. MESA offers support with academics, transfer planning, career exploration, and community building — plus access to scholarships, internships, and resources that prepare students to successfully transfer to four-year universities.
