Nursing Dual Enrollment Pathway

Golden West College’s Nursing Dual Enrollment Pathway gives high school students the opportunity to begin key nursing prerequisite coursework while still completing their high school diploma.

Designed for students interested in a career in nursing, this pathway provides early exposure to the profession and a strong academic foundation aligned with GWC’s Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) program, as well as preparation for bachelor’s-level nursing pathways.

By starting early, students can make meaningful progress toward a nursing degree — saving time and reducing future college costs.

Students work with counselors to choose courses that fit their long-term goals.

The Nursing Dual Enrollment Pathway connects directly to GWC’s Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) program and Concurrent Enrollment Pathways toward a bachelor’s degree in nursing in partnership with California State University, San Bernardino.

Get Started

High school students who would like to enroll in a Golden West College course must complete the steps outlined below to get permission to enroll.

Step 1. Apply to Golden West College

New students: Create an Open CCC Account AND Submit an application to become a Golden West College student.

Returning students: Sign in with the login credentials you used when you first applied. This will be a personal email address and password - not your GWC email address.

Apply to Golden West CollegeOnly students who have taken a GWC class in the fall or spring semester within the last 12 months do not need to re-apply (summer students do not need to re-apply for the fall). All other students need to submit a new application to GWC for the semester they want to register in.

IMPORTANT: After completing your Golden West College application in Step 1 - record the CCCID# from the application screen or confirmation email and proceed to Step 2.

Note: It takes 1-2 days to receive the GWC welcome email with the student's GWC ID number and MyGWC username and password after submitting the application. If you do not receive this email, you can contact us at dualenrollment@gwc.cccd.edu for assistance.

Step 2. Get Parent Consent to Take Classes

The following form authorizes Parent Consent for a student to enroll in courses taught at a college in the Coast Community College District (CCCD): Coastline College, Golden West College (GWC), or Orange Coast College (OCC) courses taught at the high school, at one of the colleges, or online.

Students only need to submit one Parent Consent Form for the duration of their high school years.

IMPORTANT: If you are planning on taking Concurrent Enrollment classes, proceed to Step 3. For Dual Enrollment students planning to take classes at their high school, please contact your counselor.

Step 3. Select Courses for High School Approval

Dual Enrollment - (Classes at your High School)

Speak with your High School Counselor for more information about Dual Enrollment opportunities at your school.

Concurrent Enrollment - (Classes at GWC or Online)

Submit a Concurrent Enrollment Release Form to request approval from your High School for the class(es) you want to take.

Note: This form must be submitted every term you want to take classes.

Golden West College cannot grant any high school student permission to enroll prior to receiving signed permission from their high school.

Note: It can take up to 5 business days for the GWC Admissions and Records Office to process completed release forms, depending on the volume of forms that have been received. High school students are not able to register in a college class without a valid release form on file.

Step 4. Clear prerequisites (if needed)

For Entry level courses e.g. (ENGL - C1000) (STAT C1000) - submit My Academic Plan.

For Higher Level MATH (MATH G170 and above), SPAN, VIET, or SIGN courses that have a pre-requisite AND you want to use High School credits/transcripts to satisfy the requirements, submit the High School Prerequisite/Corequisite Challenge Form.

For all Higher Level courses that have a prerequisite, and if you have satisfied this requirement through an AP Exam or completed College-Level Courses/Credits, please submit the regular GWC Prerequisite Clearance Form.

Step 5. Register for Classes

Dual Enrollment (Classes at your High School)

Your High School Counselor will add you to the roster of the class that you want to take.

Concurrent Enrollment (Classes at GWC or Online)

It is the responsibility of students to register themselves in college classes using the Registration portal in MyGWC.

Completing a release form does not mean a student is registered, and it does not guarantee students a spot in the class. College classes are filled on a first-come, first-served basis.

For dual enrollment classes held on a high school campus, students will need to enter the dual enrollment course CRN(s) to register. Dual enrollment classes are not visible in the online schedule.

Note: Students enrolled in the HBUHSD district will have textbook costs covered by the school district if they order them from the GWC Bookstore and the course is approved for dual credit. HBUHSD students need to select the Financial Aid or FSA option and enter their GWC ID number when checking out to charge the school district. Students taking a GWC class at their high school through dual enrollment do not need to order a textbook. They will be provided.
